It’s finally time for us to start harvesting veggies in earnest. Corn is picked fresh each morning – yum. Give us a call if you need large quantities for a party or picnic. We’ll be happy to pick some special for your event. Squash, beans, eggplant, cucumbers are at their peak!! Summer fruits like Peaches and Nectarines and Berries are so sweet and juicy. NOTHING like those supermarket fruits that are shipped from “who knows where” & are hard as a rock.
Joe’s picking TOMATOES!!! He has grown so many varieties of cherry tomatoes this year! Thay look like a rainbow in the pint baskets. Heirlooms are a little slower producing than some other, but they;ll be here soon. Canning season is just around the corner.
Perennials and shrubs are looking good and our selection is still great. THis is actually a good time to take a serious look at your garden ans decide where are the holes? What colors are missing? Then come on in and let us help you find exactly what you need to fill in those gaps. Smith's Acres is proud to say that ALL of our annuals, perennials, trees, and shrubs are all grown right here in CONNECTICUT. That's right! You're buying plants that are grown in our zone and have the best chance of becoming established easily in your garden at home. These plants are NOT shipped in from the west coast or down south, but from neighboring towns, grown by folks that we know personally. That's not going to happen at any of those Big Box stores.
So be sure to come to a Locally Owned garden center and purchase plants that are all CT Grown!

"Unzipped on Better CT"!!
We were on "Better CT" with Scot Haney. It was great fun having Scot visit us a few weeks ago. Check it out.....
Hydrangeas seem to be better than ever this year. Each of them are loaded with huge bloom. We still have a great selection of them. As long as they are well watered until established, it's OK to continue to plant in the garden this time of year. (Soaker hoses can be your best friend!) Hydangeas are one if the thirstiest plants in the garden. They ALWAYS need extra water. Endless Summer hydrangeas are fantastic this year. Mine had over 150 blooms!!
We carry a full line of "Pink Ribbon Plants". Prides Corner Farms (the propagators of Pink Ribbon plants) donates 10% of the wholesale cost of each plant to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. You can learn more about the foundation by going to www.bcrfcure.org.
In addition to the Pink Ribbon Plants, we are proud to announce that we have plenty of "Invincibelle Spirit" hydrangeas in stock. "Invincibelle Spirits" are an amazing "Annabelle" type hydrangea that is hardy down to zone 4. It reblooms with big poofs of pink flowers all summer long. Proven Winners will donate $1 for each "Invincibelle Spirit" hydrangea to the BCRF. That makes 2 great ways to that you can help cure cancer, and enjoy gardening all at the same time.
